Water Star Community Program Goals

  • Protect water resources through a combination of education, planning, physical improvements, and improving municipal ordinances, programs and operations.
  • Protect and improve water quality in urban surface water bodies, through management of water and adjacent land, working to ameliorate existing problems and prevent future problems.
  • Stabilize groundwater quantity by balancing water use and replenishment.
  • Protect groundwater quality from human-caused and naturally-occurring contaminants.
  • Improve the health of ecosystems on the land and in the water through a watershed-wide approach.
  • Minimize the negative impacts that human activities have on water resources, through changing human land use and development patterns.
  • Increase access to recreational opportunities on and adjacent to lakes and rivers.
  • Improve public health by reducing pollutants and other contaminants in water.
